Leagues…

I had to update the League line up for this coming Wednesday.  Stay up to speed on that…

vs. DeWitt

  • Overall we ran to our potential both on the boys and girls side.  On the girls side of things the mental barrier of running against faster runners seemed to get the best of us and this had a negative effect on the final results.  If one does not believe that they can compete they have lost the race before the gun has even gone off.
  • The younger runners are starting to transition into their role as leaders on the team.  Keep this going so we can keep the tradition of excellence going at Haslett.

Regionals

  • One of our top performances of the 2012 season.  The 4×8′s ran great.  We got a young boys team to the state finals and the girls ran their best time of the season… which will set them up for a nice honor roll meet.  I hope this starts our tradition of having a 4×8 at the state finals every year now.
  • Competing on a higher stage.  Over the past few years we have gotten much better at competing on the regional and state level.  This is mainly do to the fact of… that is what you expect of yourself.  It’s been a very cool process to see.

St. Johns and Bath

St. Johns

I’m always a little on edge when we don’t load up all the distance events… but every time it seems to work out okay.  Many got a chance to run just one race and go after a PR and many got it or came very close.

For our younger runners they have one more chance at DeWitt on Tuesday to go after one of their PRs.  If you have a preference on what you want to run just let me know.  If not I’ll do my best to guess at what it might be.

Bath

Another day of only one event to run a fast time.  When the weather cooperates it’s a perfect storm for many.  Those that it worked out for should be thankful that it did because in athletics you truly never know what lies ahead.

For those that it did not work out.  My suggestion is to reflect on the positives that you have had over the season and begin looking forward to your next race.  Try your best to learn from the experience.  What might have gone wrong?  If you are unsure of what that might be just ask.  I’m sure I have an outside perspective that might help.

Congratulations to sophomore Alex McCormick for breaking the 800 meter school record that has stood for 21 years.  Alex ran a time of 1:55.61 (FAT converted to hand time) this past weekend at the Bath Invitational to break the previous record of 1:55.7 set in 1991 by Erin Faaborg.

1991…

  • Pretty cool that Alex was not even born when this record was set.
  • I was only 10 years old and had no idea what a good 800 meter time was.
  • Internet is made available to unrestricted commercial use on August 6th and the number of computers on the net reaches 1 million.
  • The digital answering machine was invented.  That means a land line and a machine that had a tape in it to record messages.
  • Was the last year that teens probably french rolled their pants.
